The first half of Servants plays as a "Crucible"-inspired race to prove a young woman's innocence against a charge of consorting with fey. The trick has been in creating adventures that are about discovery and dread rather than killing. Ravenloft is a setting founded on principles of horror and the unknown. There are spoilers in this, so if you're a player in a Ravenloft game, reading further will spoil really wicked surprises that you might otherwise have enjoyed. There are some appalling elements that shocked but also reinforced RL's place as a setting for more mature gaming. The second part falls back on its dungeon crawling fantasy roots. ![]() ![]() The first half is good and works hard to serve as an example of how adventures should go in the domains. Servants of Darkness is the best Ravenloft adventure since Bleak House.
